Ashes of Memories
Museum of Australian Photography
This collection aims to convey childhood memories being destroyed over time to create an ambiguous representation of the original event. This depiction of memories becoming deteriorating challenges our nostalgic and sentimental view of childhood. This was inspired by the Theory of Memory Decay by Peterson and Peterson (1959) which proposes that when we recollect an event, our memory becomes slightly altered, and over time memories become abstract and false.
